Consulate Hosts 55th Independence and National Day Celebration in Istanbul

The Bangladesh Consulate General in Istanbul recently hosted a vibrant celebration for the 55th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh, bringing together a diverse group of expatriate professionals, academics, and media representatives. The event featured Honorable Zahir Uddin Swapan, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, as the Chief Guest, alongside H.E. Mr. M Amanul Haq, the Ambassador to Türkiye. The gathering served as a poignant tribute to the sacrifices of 1971 while outlining a forward-looking vision for a prosperous, digitally advanced, and inclusive Bangladesh.

The celebration was marked by strong patriotism and a shared call to deepen ties between Bangladesh and Türkiye. In his keynote, Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan highlighted the need for an inclusive society and encouraged the diaspora to contribute as “unofficial ambassadors” through investment in education and the economy. Ambassador Haq and Consul General Muhammad Mizanur Rahman stressed reducing social inequality for sustainable independence. Community speakers also reflected on Bangladesh’s growing global presence. The event concluded with a special prayer for the freedom fighters and national prosperity, followed by a gathering over traditional Bangladeshi cuisine that strengthened community bonds in Istanbul.
